And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:15

“If I am afraid to speak the truth lest I lose affection, or lest the one concerned should say, “You do not understand”, or because I fear to lose my reputation for kindness; if I put my own good name before the other’s highest good, then I know nothing of Calvary love.”

Amy Carmichael (1867-1951) in If: What do I Know of Calvary Love? (Fort Washington: CLC, 2011) 26.

Kindness interfaces in a powerful way with generosity in the the thinking of Amy Carmichael, famous missionary to India. Calvary love transforms how we interface with everyone.

Carmichael reminds us that in light of Calvary and the love that Christ has shown us, we must be fearless to speak the truth and selfless to show the love extended to us in Jesus Christ.

Are you fearless like our Lord Jesus Christ? Sometimes I fail because I let fear of what others will think of me dictate my behavior. I must be fearless to show Calvary love.

Are you selfless like our Lord Jesus Christ? Sometimes I fail because I am focused on myself rather than the needs of others. I must be selfless to show Calvary love.

Christ be with me, here in India and all over the world, to speak the truth and show Your love in a manner that is fearless and selfless. In your mercy, hear my prayer and make it so. Amen.

As I gazed at the beauty of the Taj Mahal — a breath-taking wonder of the world — I realized that it pales compared to the eternal home that Jesus is preparing for us thanks to Calvary love.

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
